Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants his players to pick up form as soon as possible despite suggesting that they are still not in top condition.

Manchester United’s shortcomings, especially defensively, was well exposed in their curtain-raiser match for the new Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils suffered a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, with new arrival Donny van de Beek, who scored the one goal for them, proving to be the only silver lining in an otherwise dull evening.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side put up a much better performance in the following match as they soundly beat Luton Town 3-0 to proceed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

They will now look to use their high morale from the last win to secure their first win of the 2020/21 Premier League season when they meet Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expecting his players to get better gradually as the campaign picks up speed.

“They’re getting better and fitter and sharper. We will get better and better, and fitter and fitter,” Solskjaer said, via the official club website.

“But we can’t wait and say ‘well, we’ll get fit in 3 weeks’ time’. We need to get going straight away.”
