The Red Devils boss has talked up the potential that lies in a partnership between Cristiano Ronaldo and the returning Edinson Cavani.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Edinson Cavani is fit to return from injury ahead of Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Manchester United manager is now excited to see the damage Cavani can do alongside Ronaldo, who inherited the Uruguayan’s No.7 jersey earlier this month.

Cavani, who has made just one appearance this season, has been sidelined with injury since the last international break two weeks ago.

“He’s in the squad tomorrow, he’s been training and now he feels ready to contribute,” Solskjaer said about Cavani’s availability in a press conference on Friday afternoon.

“He came on against Wolverhampton, then he got a slight strain in the international break when we had a game and he’s ready again. He’s worked really hard and diligently, as he always does, and hopefully, he’ll have an impact as he did last season.”

CR7 and Cavani to lead the attack?

Solskjaer is relishing the prospect of pairing Cavani up in the attack with Ronaldo, who has scored four goals in three games since his return from Juventus.

On this deadly new partnership, the Norwegian added: “It’s exciting to see those two together. I’m sure that’ll be a good partnership as well, wanting to be on the end of things.

“We’ve seen some teams dropping deep against us, not giving space in behind and they’re definitely two boys you’d like to see in around the goal in that scenario. I can see those two working well together.”
