Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responded to questions about Erling Haaland’s goal-scoring pace and how he feels about surpassing his record.

Erling Haaland is making an impression on everybody but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves credit for spotting him at Molde. That’s right, the Manchester United manager was the one who gave the Borussia Dortmund striker his first chance to become a professional.

However, Ole won’t take any credit because he thinks this type of player was inevitable regardless of the manager who spotted him. Haaland has done more than any other player in football history did at his age, perhaps he can only be compared to Messi in some aspects.

But Leo hadn’t scored 16 goals in his first 12 Champions League matches at 20 years old. In fact, Solskjaer himself only scored 20 goals during his entire run in the tournament. As he nears that record, Haaland will surely surpass the man who discovered him first.

Ole has no doubts about Erling Haaland.

On Wednesday, there are plenty of matches to enjoy as part of the penultimate group stage match on the UEFA Champions League. Erling Haaland will have a chance to get closer to Solskjaer’s 20 goals in the competition when his side faces Lazio. Manchester United has a crucial match against PSG at Old Trafford as well.

When asked if he believed Haaland could break his goal-record soon, Ole told reporters via Goal: “He’ll beat it and very quickly, that’s for sure. The boy has had a great start to his career. It was really good to work with him, to see the potential in him, and some part of me feels proud of having a little bit of an input in such a rise. I’m sure Erling will score loads in the Champions League.”

After this, Solskjaer refused to answer questions about a potential transfer: “Here we go… on the eve of an important game against PSG and we’re talking transfers. With our additions in the summer and last time in January, I don’t think it’s right for me to start commenting on the transfer window already. Let’s see where we are in January. I’ve got selection issues already!”
