Ahead of Manchester United’s last match of 2020, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke about Paul Pogba’s new role and how it affects Luke Shaw.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have found a new role for Paul Pogba at Manchester United. Given that Bruno Fernandes has taken over the playmaker role, the gaffer had to improvise with Paul a little bit. When he played at Juventus, Pogba did perform as a winger several times with incredible results. As we all know, the French midfielder is one of the most versatile players in world football.

As such, Solskjaer is making decisions with his position that are helping out the squad. The problem is that playing on the flanks can sometimes affect the position of other players inside the pitch. In this case, Luke Shaw is the player who has been slightly affected by Solskjaer’s decision to move Paul Pogba to the wing. Despite these changes, Ole thinks both Paul and Luke understand the team’s needs and they are getting the idea.

Ole trusts Paul and Luke with the new role.

As per The Mirror, Solskjaer said the following: “Luke is one of those lads with strength and power and quality, and of course down the left-hand side he’s created a good relationship with Marcus. Against Leicester, Paul came in on the left and I think that changed the dynamic a little bit and that pushed Luke on more and he had to go more then because if you don’t have a wide man in front of you then it’s the full-back’s responsibility.”

“I think he grasps that now,” Ole added. “Sometimes he’s got to stay back more and sometimes he’s the one that goes. I’ve enjoyed working with Luke for a couple of seasons now and he’s a very talented boy that I still want to push on.”
