Manchester United boss Ole Solskjaer says he has no issues with Gareth Southgate after Mason Greenwood was axed from the England squad.

Gareth Southgate decided to leave out Mason Greenwood for his latest pick of the England squad.

The United youngster alongside Man City’s Phil Foden were both dropped from the latest squad. It is believed to be a punishment for both youngsters for flouting social distancing rules after they brought women to the team hotel on international duty last month.

Greenwood had only just got his first call-up at the time and has now missed out due to his ‘carelessness’.

Man United boss Ole Solskjaer says he respects Gareth Southgate’s decision and that they both spoke about the England squad selection.

“I respect Gareth’s decision,” said Ole to the Man United website.

“I had a very nice chat with Gareth about our players, the England possibles.

“As I said earlier on, I think games, at this point, are important for players to get some minutes. But we will get plenty of training minutes into Mason.”

Despite the scrutiny surrounding the teenager at the moment, Solskjaer feels Greenwood will ultimately benefit from this challenging period.

“You know… Mason is one of the top strikers of the future for England and I am sure he’s going to play many games for England,” he continued.

“This has been a learning curve for him. He has to reflect on where he’s at, what he needs to do, and how he can get to where he wants to get.”
