Real Madrid have suffered a Covid outbreak as several players and staff members test positive for the virus.
In recent weeks, several clubs have suffered COVID-19 outbreaks, with the new omicron variant rising the cases across Europe.
Real Madrid announced six of their first-team players have tested positive for COVID on Thursday. Gareth Bale, Sergio Asensio, Andriy Lunin and Rodrygo are the new cases, while Luka Modric and Marcelo are already self-isolating. The club also confirmed technical assistant Davide Ancelotti has tested positive for COVID-19.
Real Madrid are leading the La Liga table with an eight-point clearance. However, the new outbreak might cause serious personal problems for Carlo Ancelotti.
The Blancos’ upcoming game against Cadiz is now in serious doubt as the club’s Covid situation worsens. Real Madrid is currently the only Spanish club that has suffered a Covid outbreak.
However, several English sides have gone through the same problem in recent days. The Premier League have postponed several games while clubs are calling for a temporary shutdown. In Germany, the government has already imposed new restrictions on stadium attendance, which might also be implemented in other countries.
Following their game against Cadiz, Real Madrid have Athletic Bilbao as their next opponent on December 22.
