Due to all the major doubts about both players, Simeone decided to give his verdict on Luis Suarez and Diego Costa playing together.
When Luis Suarez arrived at Atletico Madrid last week, the world was eager to know how Diego Costa would react. The Brazilian striker plays the exact same position as Luis, but Diego Simeone appears to have big plans for both. In fact, the more hard-to-cover strikers ‘Cholo’ has, the better. But Costa might not be willing to share the spotlight with the Uruguay international if we look at his recent behavior.
Over the last two weeks, we’ve seen the Brazilian striker make some bewildering public statements that suggest he wants to leave. This is nothing more than a reaction to the rumors linking him with different clubs but Simeone wanted to put them to bed. The Argentine manager spoke to the press ahead of Atletico’s upcoming La Liga match.
Confirmed, Suarez and Costa will play together.
When asked directly about his tactical plans for both strikers, Simeone was clear: “They can also start together or separate. Diego is different then Luis. He moves more to the sides, he stretches the team more and moves a lot between the lines,” said ‘Cholo’ on the club’s official website.
“We’ve seen this from Suarez, he moves with shorter motion, diagonal movements inside the box. He has a major presence in the goal zone and he can play great with others when he is turning his back on goal. This allows the squad to attack with more people.
“Of course they can play together, that’s for sure. We will see which moment and situation I pick. What matters is that both of them can give us their better selves. Diego with his personality and Luis with his status is important for us.”
