The La Liga leaders cannot afford to drop any more points in the title race with rivals Real Madrid breathing down their necks.

Diego Simeone is hoping Atletico Madrid have overcome their “moment of irregularity” after dropping more points against Real Betis on Sunday.

Yannick Carrasco put his side on the front foot within just five minutes of kick-off before Christian Tello equalized for the hosts at the 20-minute mark. Neither side were able to score from there on and break the deadlock, and the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Despite being unable to grab a win, Atletico retook the La Liga lead from Real Madrid, who had jumped to the top of the table following a 2-1 victory in El Clasico on Saturday.

Los Rojiblancos will now have to be extra careful as any slip-ups could severely hinder their chances of clinching a first league title in seven seasons with a mere single point separating them from their city rivals.

“We will see what happens, all the teams have a moment of irregularity and hopefully we have passed it after today’s draw,” said Simeone post-match, via Marca.

“We have maintained a firm and strong step this season as both Madrid and Barcelona have begun to recover so we will wait and see.”
