English top-flight teams bolstered their squads over the summer, and Bernardo Silva feels his side will have to tread more lightly than ever.

A financial crisis might be prevalent in the times of a global pandemic but the Premier League did little to pull punches in spending during the recently concluded transfer market.

Over £1.2 billion was spent by the teams in the summer window. That figure is not much different from the one that was reported a year before when clubs spent close to £1.3 billion, as BBC reports.

Chelsea were the team with the highest investment made. Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, among others, were brought in for a total of around a quarter of a billion.

Everton too spent lavishly, bringing in star names such as James Rodriguez and Allan. Tottenham and Arsenal also dipped in the market while Liverpool too made a couple of additions to their squad.

Bernardo Silva is well aware that the teams have significantly strengthened themselves, meaning there will be increased competition for Manchester City.

“I think all the Premier League teams are stronger this season and that’s good for the competition,” said Silva, as per Goal.

“It’s good to know that all the matches are going to be difficult now, no matter which teams are involved.

“We’ll have to work even harder this season to beat everybody. I think the Premier League became even more competitive this season. All the teams made great signings and strengthened their squads.”
