The Blaugrana coach feels the Copa del Rey semi-final 1st leg scoreline provides an inaccurate picture of his side’s display on the pitch.

Ronald Koeman insists the defeat to Sevilla serves as a ‘very tough punishment’ for FC Barcelona.

Barcelona came out empty-handed, without an away goal advantage, from the Copa del Rey semi-final 1st leg at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Wednesday.

The Catalan giants received their first blow at the 25th minute when Jules Kounde scored a fine solo goal. The second and final blow came at the hands of one of their former player as Ivan Rakitic fired home five minutes from time.

They have been in great form lately, but the 2-0 result put an end to Barca’s six-game winning streak across all competitions.

“It’s a very tough punishment,” Koeman said post-match, via Independent.

“We should have got a better result, we had a lot of chances and played well but leave here with a bad result. It did not reflect what we saw on the pitch.”

Koeman, however, remains quite optimistic that his side can overturn their two-goal deficit in the second leg, schedule for March 3, and advance to the finals of the Copa del Rey.

“When we’re at home, Barca are capable of anything,” he added.
