Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium is the place where Barcelona visited Sevilla for the Copa del Rey semifinal. We got player ratings.
FC Barcelona struggled tonight at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium against Sevilla. Both sides played the first of two Copa del Rey semifinal matches in different circumstances. On one side, the locals are going through a good moment of the season but not positioned well on La Liga table. Whereas Barcelona is also playing well but they have several injured players that inevitably hinder their level of performance.
Last week they got Ronald Arujo injured with an ankle problem that left him out of tonight’s game. Barcelona’s weak defense was the reason they lost tonight after Mingueza allowed the first goal vs Jules Kounde. A spectacular Maradonian goal that allowed Sevilla to finish the first half with an advantage.
Bounou denies Messi a few times.
After the break, Leo Messi had a few attempts against Sevilla but Bounou denied him every single time. The Argentine wasn’t able to change his side’s fate this evening and something added even more insult to injury. Ivan Rakitic scored a second goal for Sevilla against his former club.
The Croatian midfielder didn’t celebrate because he knows Barcelona could be eliminated from the competition. Even though this semifinal will have a second match, no away goals can hurt the Catalan club for the return leg. We will enjoy that game at the end of the month at Camp Nou Stadium.
