Erling Haaland has proven to be a ‘sensational’ talent, says Paul Scholes, who believes the striker can reach the levels of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Haaland appears to be going from strength to strength with each passing game, leading to widespread interest from across Europe.

The 20-year-old bagged his first international hat-trick on Sunday to help Norway breeze past Romania 4-0 in Oslo. He’s also going strong on the club front, having scored 21 goals in just 23 games for Borussia Dortmund.

It’s clear Haaland is something special, but does he really have what it takes to match Ronaldo and Messi? Or is still too early to call in the youngster’s career?

“I think Haaland is sensational,” Scholes told Stadium Astro.

“I think he’ll be up there with your Ronaldo’s and Messi’s levels possibly from what I’ve seen so far.”

The Red Devils legend also believes Manchester United would be better served signing Haaland than his Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho.

Scholes added: “That’s why I just never felt Sancho was the right type of player because we’ve got three of that type of player already.

“To spend £100m or whatever, I didn’t think it was right. I wasn’t that disappointed.

“Look, he’s a brilliant player and he’ll probably improve any team but I just didn’t think there was the need for him this year.”

Haaland will return to action on Wednesday for Norway’s Nations League match against Northern Ireland at the Ullevaal Stadium.
