The Red Devils have already dropped seven points in their opening seven matches of the 2021-22 campaign.

Manchester United are not enough “aggressive” or “attack-minded” than their Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, says Paul Scholes.

Scholes, who won 25 trophies in his 19-year-long stay at Old Trafford, suggests Manchester United’s weakness is their midfield and urges Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to “get the balance right in that team.”

United enjoyed a bright start to the 2021-22 Premier League campaign but their momentum quickly dropped off. Winless in their last three league outings, the Red Devils find themselves two points and three places behind league leaders Chelsea.

“Ole doesn’t seem to be able to get the balance right in that team,” Scholes told Webby and O’Neill.

“Is he going to play that one with the rest around him (Scot McTominay), and have Pogba next to him (Scot McTominay) who he probably doesn’t trust defensively? Or is he going to play two holding midfield players.

“That’s the difference between United and I think Liverpool and City – they are much more aggressive, more attack-minded.

“I think if Ole can get that right with that balance in the team… going forward I don’t think is a problem. Going forward we’ve got so many exciting players with Cristiano [Ronaldo] coming.

“Defensively we look good again. I know Maguire is out injured but once he’s back which will be hopefully after the international break.

“It just seems to be getting that one person in the middle of the pitch right, that balance of the team. But once he gets that, I think we’ll be alright.”
