Earlier today, Marcus Rashford confirmed a ‘bittersweet’ sensation after getting a new accolade for his charity work against child poverty.

Marcus Rashford’s work against child poverty already granted him an impressive accolade last year with the Member of the British Empire distinction (MBE). But this was only the beginning of a long fight against injustice for the young Manchester United star. While he recovers from a prolonged injury, he spends his free time fighting against child poverty. Just yesterday, the British Government decided to cut the Universal Credit uplift that Rashford himself fought so much to get approved.

The University of Manchester decided to grant him an Honorary Doctorate that Sir Alex Ferguson also has amongst his many distinctions. During his speech, Rashford was accompanied by the legendary manager, his friends, and his family. Although he seemed happy for getting this new accolade, Marcus was also saddened by the government’s recent decision to cut aid to so many children around Britain. His fight is still far from over as he continues to lead by example.

Rashford doesn’t want Covid-19 as an excuse.

The British Government’s decision to cut all the aid starting on October 13. These checks were the lifeline that Marcus Rashford was talking about during his speech. Millions of families around the British Isles will stop getting this vital help but Rashford is not giving up on his fight. He also rallied everybody in the country to support the aid to be reinstated. As per The Mirror, here’s Rashford’s part of the speech: “To be here in the presence of a great such as Sir Alex and those who have played a huge role in my journey to be where I am today is special.

“I’m here to receive my honorary doctorate for my work around child poverty. Yesterday, millions of families across the UK lost a lifeline and a means of staying afloat – a move that could see child poverty rise to one in three children. For that reason, today is bittersweet. It’s time that representatives got out into communities like mine. It’s time they saw first-hand the true measure of struggle. Covid-19 can no longer be used as an excuse.”
