Alexis Sanchez has opened up on his disappointing experience at Manchester saying felt a lack of closeness with his teammates.
Manchester United supporters were overjoyed after the club announced the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January 2018.
Sanchez had established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League during his four-year stay at the Emirates, enough to convince Man United to hand him their famous No. 7 shirt.
But it did not too long for the fans’ joy to turn to despair as the Chilean winger never really managed to find his feet at Old Trafford, let alone his reach his previous levels.
The former FC Barcelona man found the back of the net just five times in his 45 appearances for the club.
Man United eventually gave on him but found it quite troubling finding a new suitor for Sanchez, who was on around €630,000-a-week wages.
The 31-year old was shipped off to Inter Milan on loan in the 2019/20 season and the move was made permanent earlier this summer.
Sanchez reflected on his time at Old Trafford in a video posted on his Instagram on Friday, saying he had an odd feeling right from the start and wanted to return to Arsenal after his very first training.
“After the first training session, I realized many things. I came home and asked my family and my manager if I could not break the contract and return to Arsenal,” he said.
“Something did not fit me, but I had already signed. Months passed and I kept feeling the same. We were not united as a team at that time.
“The journalists also spoke without knowing and it hurt. Former players also spoke and had no idea what was happening inside the club. And they hurt me.
“A player also depends on the internal environment, that we need to be a family. We weren’t like that, and it was reflected on the field.”
