The Egypt international made Reds history during the demolition of Manchester United on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah was delighted to break a ‘special’ record in Liverpool’s 7-0 routing of Manchester United.

The 30-year-old forward bagged a brace at Anfield to extend his Premier League goal tally for Liverpool to 129, surpassing Robbie Fowler’s previous record of 128 goals.

“It’s very special, I can’t lie,” Salah told Sky Sports.

“This record was in my mind since I first came here. In my first season, in my mind, I was always chasing the record so, to make it today against United with that result was unbelievable.

“I’m going home to celebrate with the family, chamomile tea, and sleep.”

Reds must stay grounded

Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez also scored braces in Sunday’s victory. Roberto Firmino’s 88th-minute goal completed a famous night at Anfield. The result moved Liverpool into fifth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

“It’s very special to win the game like that but at the same time, we don’t want to go into the next game with overconfidence,” Salah added.

“We just need to be humble, just play and win games. We’re not in the position that we want to be, but hopefully this gives us a good push and we can keep winning.”

Liverpool next visit Bournemouth in the Premier League this Saturday.
