An incredible attacking performance from Liverpool brought United’s run of victories to an abrupt end.

Liverpool defeated Manchester United 7-0 in their Premier League game on Sunday. The Reds’ attacking trio crushed the Red Devils in the Northwest derby.

United’s WORST-EVER defeat!

Man Utd came into the game as clear favourites, given their incredible run in the past few weeks. Erik ten Hag’s men even started off as the better side as they looked for a first-half opener.

However, Liverpool gradually found their feet in the game, preventing Man Utd’s midfield line from creating chances. The Reds finally clinched the opener through Cody Gakpo in the 43rd minute.

United’s performance in the first half didn’t give a sign of the disaster that was about to come after the break. But it took Liverpool only two minutes to double their lead in the second half.

Following an assist from Harvey Elliot, Darwin Nunez made it 2-0 for the Reds. The Reds then scored their third goal of the night when Gakpo completed his brace three minutes later.

Ten Hag tried to control the damage by making two immediate changes after Gakpo’s goal. But things only got worse for the Red Devils as the game went on. Mohamed Salah, who had provided an assist for Liverpool’s third goal, made it 4-0 for the hosts in the 66th minute.

An unstoppable shot from the Egyptian striker killed off whatever hope that was remaining for United to get back into the game.

The Red Devils were completely crushed under Liverpool’s pressure when Nunez completed his brace nine minutes later. The Uruguayan’s goal forced Ten Hag to bring in Marcel Sabitzer to stabilize the midfield.

But the strategy failed to freeze the scoreline as Liverpool scored twice more after the 80th minute.

First, Salah scored his second goal of the night to become Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League. Then, Roberto Firmino completed United’s joint-worst defeat in history by scoring his side’s seventh goal of the night.

Liverpool will hope to reignite their top-four hopes with this unbelievable win. The Red Devils, on the other hand, should be asking themselves, was this just a nightmare?
