The Senegal international is confident nothing is out of his new club’s reach for the upcoming season.
Sadio Mane has assured Bayern Munich fans that the Bavarians will do better in the Champions League with him in the team.
The forward ended a glorious six-year spell at Premier League side Liverpool this month in favor of a switch to Bayern. He has signed a contract at the Allianz Arena until 2025. The club will pay an initial transfer fee of €32 million, which could later rise to €41 million.
In Mane, Bayern have a player accustomed to success. Not only did the 30-year-old win the Champions League and Premier League titles at Liverpool, but he also led Senegal to glory in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Mane targets the Champions League
Now, in an interview with Bild, Mane has revealed he followed the Bundesliga champions last season. The forward lamented their Champions League defeat to Villarreal in the quarter-finals, comparing it to Liverpool’s own exit in 2019/20.
“Of course, I saw the games. Bayern tried everything, but they couldn’t perform at their best,” he said.
“I know that feeling all too well, that’s how we felt at Liverpool against Atletico Madrid. But I assure you, next season will be different. I’m here now and we’ll give everything.
“We have to be convinced that we can do anything. And when I look at the quality of this team, I think it’s one of the best in Europe.”
Mane could make his first outing for Bayern in a pre-season friendly against DC United in Washington on July 20.
