Lazio have identified two targets as they weigh up their options to sign a midfielder following their failure to bring in David Silva.
It came as a surprise for many, especially Lazio fans, when Real Sociedad announced the signing of David Silva late on Monday.
Silva, who had decided against extending his stay at Manchester City beyond this season, had been heavily linked with a move to Lazio in the last few weeks.
A few reports even suggested that the Spanish midfielder has agreed to personal terms with the Serie A side and the move will be confirmed following the end of Man City’s 2019/20 Champions League campaign.
But the rumors turned out to be inaccurate as he decided to return to his homeland on a free transfer.
The Biancocelesti, however, have not yet given up their hopes of signing a midfielder this summer. As La Gazzetta dello Sport claims, they have now identified Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez and West Ham United’s Felipe Anderson as their two primary targets.
Rodriguez’s high wages would pose a problem for them, but spreading his contract over several years could be a solution to that problem.
The 29-year old attacking midfielder is an outcast at Real Madrid as he is reportedly no longer in the future plans of manager Zinedine Zidane.
