Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has opened up on Thiago Alcantara’s emotional reaction after his transfer to Liverpool was confirmed.

After several weeks of negotiations, Liverpool finally reached an agreement with Bayern Munich over the signature of Thiago Alcantara for a reported fee of €30 million.

The Spaniard had refused to renew his contract with his intention earlier confirmed by the representatives of the Bundesliga champions.

A new challenge was what he supposedly yearning for, having enjoyed tremendous success throughout his seven-year-long stay at the club.

The midfielder marked his final season at the Allianz Arena by helping the team lift the Bundesliga title, DFB Pokal, and the Champions League trophy, completing a historic treble.

Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently revealed that Thiago could not control his emotions when the time came to say the final goodbye.

Rummenigge told Sky Sport: “On Thursday, the transfer to Liverpool had been granted. When I arrived, I would say 10 minutes later, in the car park, he was standing at the spot where I always park.

“I thought to myself: ‘What’s he doing here?’ He came up to me and cried in my arms for five minutes. He cried for five minutes and simply said: ‘Thank you very much for allowing this’.

“He is a great human being and was always a first-class player for Bayern Munich. The way he said goodbye to all the employees and players was unbelievable.”
