Manchester United defender Eric Bailly was asked to choose between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and his answer was somewhat bizarre.
Another day, another professional footballer being asked about his preference between Ronaldo and Messi, right? Well, this time things went a little differently. In fact, we would be willing to bet that you can’t guess what Eric Bailly’s response was.
The Manchester United defender spoke to Guillem Balague on his Youtube channel about who he believed was the best player in the world. However, Bailly wasn’t interested at all in speaking about the footballers usually regarded as the best ones out there.
“My greatest inspiration has always been (Sergio) Ramos,” he told Balague. “I’ve admired him for a long time, because of what he does in football and how he keeps going at a high level.
“For me, he’s one of the best players in the history of football. Everyone has an opinion, but he is one of the best, the perfect reference point for me. If you ask me, Messi or Ronaldo, I’d say Ramos.”
We can understand that Bailly would look up to Sergio Ramos since they’re both defenders. However, saying that he’d choose Ramos if asked about Messi or Ronaldo is a tad unusual at best. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old center-back may get the chance to play alongside his football hero. Sergio Ramos’ contract ends this summer and the Spaniard has been heavily linked with Manchester United.
