Barcelona players put more effort during preparation for matches this season as compared to the previous one, says Sergi Roberto.

Bayern Munich were expected to come out as winners when they met FC Barcelona in last season’s Champions League, but the manner in which they did took the football world by surprise.

The Bundesliga champions made a total joke of the La Liga giants’ defense, putting four goals past them inside the first half-an-hour. They put four more in the second half as Barca lost the one-legged quarter-finals tie 8-2.

Calls for severe change were made after the tragic event, and Ronald Koeman was drafted in at Camp Nou after Quique Setien’s dismissal.

Things have changed for much better since then as the team have recorded quite convincing victories in each of the two games under Koeman.

“We realized that we weren’t going into games well,” Sergi Roberto said after scoring in his side’s 3-0 at Balaidos, as Marca reports.

“We worked hard in preseason and you can tell during matches.

“We all fought until the last minute and we got an important win. It was important to show ambition and that the team is really up for it. We put in a performance with one player less. You can tell that we’re very united and really up for it.”
