The Bavarians are eager to add a new defender to their ranks this winter.

Newcastle have reportedly rejected an initial offer from Bayern Munich for Kieran Trippier.

The England international has emerged as a potential January target for Bayern, who are looking to sign him on a swap deal. Earlier this week, a report from Guardian claimed that Trippier could be swapped with Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich but it seems the two clubs are still far from reaching an agreement.

According to Daily Mail, Newcastle have already rejected an initial bid from Bayern. The Magpies hope to keep Trippier in their squad until the end of the season. However, an improved bid could still convince them to sell the experienced full back.

Bayern are looking to benefit from Newcastle’s difficult position in the transfer market. The Magpies are almost exclusively interested in swap deals due to their Financial Fair Play restrictions. The club would need to sell players before being able to complete new signings. Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips is another one of Newcastle’s midfield targets alongside Kimmich, but completing a swap deal for him looks unrealistic this January.
