Italian-side Roma are on the brink of signing one of their former players who made a move to China.

Italy international Stephan El Shaarawy is expected to sign with Roma this Saturday just 18 months after leaving the club. Although Shanghai Shenhua spent €16 million on the player back in 2019, it looks like the striker is eager to return to his former squad.

The 28-year-old has only played 18 matches for the Chinese side and failed to score a single goal in 2020. Now, multiple reports suggest El Shaarawy will return to his former team after being left out of club action for five months.

The Italian striker spent four years with the Giallorossi, scoring 40 goals and offering another 26 on 139 occasions. Last year, despite having signed a contract till 2022, he refused to go back to China. Moreover, the player shared his desire to return to European football.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, El Shaarawy has already landed in Rome. In fact, the player will complete his medical examinations this Saturday. The former Genoa and Milan striker will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Giallorossi. Moreover, he will receive wages surrounding the amount of €3.5 million per season.
