After several weeks of uncertainty, FC Barcelona finally decided to part ways with Luis Suarez and allow him to leave the club for free.
Luis Suarez arrived at FC Barcelona as one of the club’s most expensive transfers ever, he came as a banned player at the time right after a disastrous World Cup. The Catalan club was the only one that trusted him after that shameful episode with Giorgio Chiellini.
Luis had to respond to that trust and he accomplished many things with the Blaugrana jersey. After six seasons at the club, he became the third all-time scorer with 198 goals to his name, just below Cesar and Messi. Suarez also leaves with several trophies under his belt, one being the European Golden Shoe that he won during the 2015/16 season by scoring 40 league goals.
But the most recent years haven’t been what people expected from Suarez and he needed to change his situation. Although he had one year left on his contract, he demanded his pay in full if Barcelona wanted him out. However, the Catalan club finally reached an agreement with him on Monday.
Atletico Madrid in the horizon.
As reported Fabrizio Romano, Luis Suarez agreed to get paid only half of what Barcelona owed him from that final year on his contract. This allows the striker to leave the club for free and sign for any other club of his choosing. The Juventus option is completely dead as it is with any other club in Italy. Suarez won’t be able to get his passport before the transfer window closes on October 5.
This leaves only one option for Suarez, which is to play for Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone was always keen on signing the Uruguay international on a free transfer. This opens up a huge opportunity for Suarez to remain in Spain for the rest of his career.
Romano’s report confirms that Luis won’t be able to sign for the Colchoneros until Alvaro Morata leaves the institution. The Spanish striker is currently being pursued by Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus. There will be an agreement soon. Luis Suarez will become an Atletico Madrid player and will earn €9 million per season.
