In an unsurprising turn of events, Leo Messi just made a fundamental decision about his future and his possible transfer to another club.

Leo Messi just made a fundamental transfer decision that will affect FC Barcelona for the next five years, at least. Just last summer, we saw how the Argentine star sent a transfer request in order to leave the Catalan club for free. He was truly unhappy with the club’s institutional problems and couldn’t take it anymore. Not winning a single title last season and getting painfully eliminated in the Champions League must’ve hurt.

Out of the few good things president Josep Maria Bartomeu did was blocking Messi’s exit during that turbulent time. Getting him to cool his head allowed him to think about his decision for a while before making it. After time passed and a new president arrived, Messi started to realize he might’ve been wrong. Ronald Koeman is finding the ideal starting eleven this season and the squad is winning matches. With this and other aspects of the club’s improvement, Leo seems to have finally reached a decision.

Is Leo staying or leaving?

According to El Chiringuito’s Jose Alvarez, Lionel Messi needed only the previous month to decide his future. It has been reported that the Argentine has pretty much decided to remain at the club but there are still some details to polish. For starters, Joan Laporta first needs to convince Messi there is a worthy project to fight for titles over the next five years. If the project attracts Leo, money won’t be an issue for him.

He will be happy to cut his salary in half in order to bring a top player who can help him win titles. After sitting down with his family and talking it over, it seems the Messi family isn’t leaving Barcelona after all. They all decided that staying is in their best interest. Now, it’s Joan Laporta’s turn to make the ideal offer for him to properly make the decision and make it official. Will the Barça president convince Leo to stay?
