According to talkSPORT, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to wear Manchester United’s number ‘7’ jersey that Edinson Cavani wears.

As we told you yesterday, Cristiano Ronaldo had a glimmer of hope with wearing the mythical number ‘7’ jersey at Manchester United. This is the same number Edinson Cavani wore last season and the same in which he made his debut this season against Wolves. But the Uruguay international doesn’t want to get in the way of a legendary player getting his number back at United.

He is not opposed to giving the number up for Cristiano to grab, especially after Daniel James’ exit to play for Leeds United. Getting past the Premier League rules won’t be easy though. After getting some playing time in the Premier League this season, the rulebook states that players who already had some activity are bound to their number for the rest of the season. If Ronaldo was to take his beloved number ‘7’ back, he would have to get a special permit from the Premier League to do so.

Manchester United reaches out to the Premier League.

Face it, watching Cristiano Ronaldo wear a number that is not United’s number ‘7’ will be extremely strange. It would be just as strange as watching Leo Messi wearing PSG’s number ‘30’ last weekend against Reims. Hopefully, the Premier League can indulge Ronaldo with this luxury due to his status as a legend of the league. According to talkSPORT, Man United already sent a special request to the Premier League about this opportunity. We should be getting a response before the Portuguese forward’s hypothetical debut for the Red Devils this season.

That will happen on September 11, after the upcoming international break. As we all know, Cavani already wears the number ‘21’ jersey for Uruguay. He won’t have a problem wearing the same shirt number at Manchester United. We still keep in mind an image of Ronaldo helping an injured Cavani off the pitch during a friendly match between Portugal and Uruguay. In that moment, Cristiano was wearing the number ‘7’ shirt and Edinson wore the number ‘21’ for their respective countries. Can we see that happen with the Red Devils this season?
