According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea was quite close to a sensational swap deal with Barcelona between two midfielders.

Chelsea and FC Barcelona nearly completed a sensational swap deal before the transfer deadline. According to a report from Fabrizio Romano’s ‘Here we go!’ podcast. Frank Lampard attempted to get one of Barcelona’s most high-profile midfielders. We are talking about Miralem Pjanic, a player who just arrived in Spain from Italy.

In fact, Pjanic was also part of a swap deal with Juventus after the ‘Old Lady’ made a move to get Arthur Melo. Initially, the Bosnian midfielder wasn’t quite welcomed by the fans to the Catalan club. However, Ronald Koeman is starting to give him more minutes during the season. He is already earning a spot inside the starting eleven.

Romano confessed he was waiting for a sensational move between both clubs for another incredible Chelsea midfielder. Jorginho hasn’t been important for the Blues since Frank Lampard arrived and he’s been trying to find a way out for months. The English manager saw this opportunity, which he attempted to take.

Pjanic preferred to stay in Barcelona.

Romano revealed that the Blues tried to convince Miralem Pjanic to play with them by any means possible. However, the Bosnian star believes he is just starting a new chapter of his career at Barcelona. His dream is to succeed playing at the same club where Messi remains, which is why he rejected the offer.

The transfer market wizard also revealed that Ronald Koeman was keen on getting Jorginho instead of Pjanic but he wasn’t able to get him. Lampard’s reason behind his wish to get Pjanic is his deep admiration for the Barcelona midfielder.

After this swap deal that almost happened, Jorginho will have to reluctantly remain at the club until the winter transfer window. It’s unclear if Frank Lampard will grant him the minutes he requires in order to get that Italy call-up for next summer’s Euros.
