Barcelona has been linked with one of Arsenal’s outcasts of the season after his agent confirmed a meeting at Camp Nou.
It is normal to assume that Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona will be fishing in the winter market lake for a way to strengthen his defense. The Catalonian team has suffered 14 goals in La Liga this season. Moreover, the long-term loss of Gerard Pique has left fans yearning for a new center-back.
However, Emre Ozturk took everyone by surprise when he told Spox why he was in Barcelona. As everyone assumed the agent was at Camp Nou to negotiate wonderkid Yusuf Demir, Ozturk denied the rumor. In fact, he decided to clarify who Barca had really taken an interest in.
“I’m not in Barcelona because of Yusuf Demir, but because of Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal, whom we also represent,” he said.
The German defender has been sidelined at Arsenal for most of the season, collecting only 44 minutes in the league. Mustafi suffered a knee injury in the summer of 2020, causing him to miss 11 matches. Moreover, the arrival of Gabriel Magalhaes left the German with even less space in the squad.
With only six months left on his contract, Mustafi will be free to sign for another club starting next month. The player can leave in the summer on a free transfer. However, he is open to the possibility of leaving right away as he has been cast aside by the Gunners.
