Sergio Reguilon believes clubs are closing the gap on Real Madrid and Barcelona. He tips Sevilla as likely challengers for the La Liga title.

Sergio Reguilon says it’s not out of place to think Sevilla can come out on top for the La Liga crown.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with Los Palanganas. He was one of the most consistent left-back names in all of La Liga.

Reguilon is back at parent club Real Madrid ahead of the upcoming season set to kick-off in 10 days.

Asked about potential title winners, the Spanish defender gave Sevilla his backing to do the unthinkable.

“Each year, things are getting a bit more equal, although Real Madrid and Barcelona are still the best,” Reguilon told Marca.

“It could be the case that Sevilla compete for LaLiga and that’d make me very happy.”

Reguilon also thanked Julen  Lopetegui for the opportunity to play regular football while at Sevilla.

“He gave me my first opportunity in professional football and now we’ve shared something very special.

“When I saw him crying after winning the Europa League, I couldn’t have been happier for him.

“He worked like a madman.”

Reguilon remains linked with an exit from Real Madrid and some reports even say he could make a permanent move to Sevilla. The 23-year-old chose to remain coy on his future.

“I’m going day by day. If I’m thinking about calls and my future, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy being with the national team,” he added.

“Obviously, Real Madrid is my home, but it’s not easy… I’m bearing everything in mind.”
