A blistering start to the season from Mohamed Salah has seen the Liverpool man score eight goals in as many games across all competitions.

Jamie Redknapp thinks Virgil van Dijk’s return has played a big role behind Mohamed Salah’s superb form.

A brace in Liverpool’s 5-1 win at Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday meant Salah has scored at least one goal in each of the club’s last six games, extending his season tally to eight goals.

The Egypt international’s excellent streak has helped Liverpool take an early lead in the Premier League table and go on top of Group B in the Champions League.

“I’ve seen a lot of Mohamed Salah, I’ve watched him closely, and he’s playing as well as I’ve ever seen him,” former Reds midfielder Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“Salah’s all-round game right now is phenomenal. His work rate, his desire, his goals, his assists… I haven’t seen him in better form.

“He’s in the form of his life. He’s confident, strong, and he’s got the bit between his teeth. He’s enjoying having Virgil van Dijk back and knowing he’s playing in a team that can win the title again. He’s in wonderful form and it’s a joy to watch him.”

Liverpool will hope Salah stays at the top of his game for Sunday’s top-of-the-table showdown with Manchester City in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old is the league’s joint-top scorer on five goals alongside West Ham striker Michael Antonio and Leicester City star Jamie Vardy.
