Jamie Redknapp and Gary Neville were left far from impressed with Arsenal man Granit Xhaka after a poor outing in his side’s loss to Spurs.

Granit Xhaka had a game to forget with the midfielder one of the woeful performers of the match.

First-half goals from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane condemned Mikel Arteta’s side to another loss and ensured the Gunners have won just one of their last seven games in the Premier League.

And the pressure is beginning to mount on Arteta, with the side languishing down in 15th place after 11 games played. The Gunners’ worst start to a league season in close to 40 years.

One player, in particular, was a culprit for the Gunners. Xhaka struggled to deal with the counter-attacking nature of Spurs and made a number of poorly timed tackles throughout the game.

With around 15 minutes to go and with Arsenal chasing the game, the Swiss caught Son deep inside the Spurs half with a nasty late challenge and was deservedly shown a yellow card. He was lucky to have escaped a red.

And speaking on commentary for Sky Sports, Neville bemoaned the player’s decision making.

“It’s just madness that,” Neville said as quoted by Metro. “The last thing you need if you’re Arsenal is the game stopping.

“Son’s going nowhere, he can’t counter-attack from there and it just stops the game for another 30 or 40 seconds.”

Redknapp went even further and stated his belief that Xhaka mistakenly thinks Arsenal fans appreciate his tough tackling style.

“I don’t get him,” he said. “How many times does he do that, Gary?

“I think he thinks he’s fooling the fans by saying ‘look at me, I’m making a tackle and I’m getting booked again.”
