(Betfair odds above – Real Madrid win/Draw/Valladolid win)
Real Madrid welcome Valladolid to the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium on Wednesday evening, planning to build on their first win of the season away to Real Betis over the weekend.
It will be the first time this term that Zinedine Zidane’s side have played at home, albeit in Valdebebas. They’ve played all their home fixtures at this venue in post-lockdown while the Bernabeu undergoes renovations. Six wins out of six suggests it won’t hold them back, though.
Valladolid, meanwhile, hope to bag their first three points of the season by pulling off a huge upset. The Pucela, owned by former Los Blancos star Ronaldo Nazario, are winless in their first three games. Beating the reigning LaLiga champions on their own turf will be a tall order, but nothing is impossible in football either.
Real Madrid Form & Stats
Defeating Real Betis 3-2 last Saturday was a welcome boost for Zidane’s men after a goalless stalemate at Real Sociedad. Not only was it their first win of the season, but coming back from 2-1 down proved their character.
Real Madrid have now gone 14 games without defeat post-lockdown, winning 11 and drawing two in the process. They also have a sound head-to-head record against Valladolid. A home victory, therefore, is widely expected in Spain.
A return home may also give Los Blancos the chance to get back into top-form in familiar surroundings. The Betis game showed once more that the squad still hasn’t peaked, having looked sluggish in defense especially.
Key Team Stats
- Won last seven home league games.
- Unbeaten in last 14 league games (W11 D2).
- Won nine of their last 11 games against Valladolid in all competitions (D2).
- Have scored two or more goals in seven of their last eight home league games.
- Over 2.5 goals in last five games in all competitions.
Real Valladolid Form & Stats
The Pucela have made gradual progress since winning promotion to LaLiga in 2018, and finished three places higher in their second season back in 13th last term. Now it’s a matter of continuing their progress.
A difficult start to the 2020/21 campaign doesn’t help matters for Valladolid, though. The visitors have drawn twice and lost once in their opening three games, leaving them just a point above the relegation zone. If they are to do better, improvement is a must sooner rather than later.
Valladolid boss Sergio, though, will take optimism from last season’s 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu. He prioritizes on keeping his squad organized at the back, which kept Real Madrid’s attackers at bay for long periods. In fact, the Spanish champions only scored twice against them in two meetings last season.
Key Team Stats
- Behind at half-time & full-time in last three away league games.
- Conceded two or more goals in last three away league games.
- Under 2.5 goals scored in 11 of their last 13 league games.
- Seventh-best defensive record last season on 43 goals conceded.
- Third-worst scoring record last season with only 32 goals.
