After a complicated match against Real Betis, Real Madrid got their first La Liga win of the season. Here are the players’ ratings.

Benito Villamarin Stadium was the witness of a heated battle between Real Madrid and Real Betis this evening. It was a game filled with controversial VAR decisions but a fair victory for Los Blancos in the end. The start of the match gave us another fresh moment from Karim Benzema, who assisted Fede Valverde for the opening goal.

But Real Betis refused to give up and they scored two consecutive first-half goals through Mandi and Carvalho. Things seemed to get more difficult for Zidane’s side as they went to the break with a losing result. But VAR still had to make an appearance and benefit them, this time in a fair fashion.

Emerson scored an own goal at the start of the second half and got sent-off 20 minutes later after a foul on Luka Jovic. Until the red card, Real Madrid was struggling against the local side but everything was slightly less difficult after that. Near the end of the match, Marc Bartra committed a handball that the ref didn’t initially see.

VAR came in to help him and made the call. It was obvious that Sergio Ramos would take the penalty and he did it in style with another Panenka. The Real Madrid skipper scored his 22dn consecutive goal from the spot. This 3-2 victory was slightly controversial but fair, Real Madrid has four points in the table.
