There is a lot at stake for Real Madrid in the Champions League when they host Borussia Monchengladbach in the Spanish capital for their final match in Group B on Wednesday night.

Los Blancos currently sit third in the group after five matches, whereas Monchengladbach lead the way in a must-win clash for both managers.

Inter Milan are also in the running for a qualification spot with a game against Shakhtar but Real Madrid have their fate in their own hands.

No matter what happens, Los Blancos will advance to the next round of the competition as long as they defeat their German opponents.

Zinedine Zidane is already under pressure at the club and another loss could put his job at the club hanging by a thread. Real Madrid have qualified for the Champions League knockout stages for the last 24 seasons in succession. Surely, this is a scenario they are not used to at all.

Real Madrid Form and Stats

Real Madrid have been the epitome of inconsistency this season. They drew 1-1 at Villarreal in La Liga before an important 2-0 win at Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

Zinedine Zidane’s men lost 2-1 at home against Deportivo Alaves. Despite having 68% possession, they were the second best team on the occasion.

Real Madrid then lost 2-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk after seeing more of the ball as well. It means they can’t afford to slip up in their final group stage match.

Real’s last match was a 1-0 win at Sevilla on Saturday. They took the lead through a 55th minute own goal but performed well enough to keep their lead. Their inconsistent nature so far means we can’t say what to expect from them tonight.

Key Team Stats
  • Real Madrid have won 2 of their last 3 matches (UEFA Champions League).
  • Real Madrid have won 2 of their last three home games (all competitions)

Borussia Monchengladbach Form and Stats

Borussia Monchengladbach won two straight matches at home in convincing fashion. They beat Shakhtar Donetsk 4-0 in the Champions League and Schalke 4-1 in the Bundesliga.

Marco Rose’s side had a tough match against Inter Milan at Borussia Park, coming away with a 3-2 defeat. Alassane Plea equalised in the 46th minute and made it 3-2 in the 75th but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Borussia Monchengladbach’s last match was a 2-2 draw at Freiburg last weekend. Considering they are still first place, they’ll be fired up for a positive result tonight as well.

Key Team Stats
  • Borussia Monchengladbach have conceded 2+ goals in 4 of their last 5 away matches
  • Borussia Monchengladbach have only one won out of their last 3 away games (all competitions).
