In a recent interview, Real Madrid player Luka Modric expressed his desire to remain at the club at all costs.

Going by his recent comments, Luka Modric has no plans of leaving Real Madrid anytime soon.

From struggling in his debut season with Los Blancos, the Croatian has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

In 2018, Modric made some history when he won the Ballon d’Or award and temporarily ended the Messi-Ronaldo duopoly of the award.

Just recently, the 35-year-old spoke on his future in an interview with Cadena COPE.

Modric was quoted as saying: “Of course I want stay at Real Madrid, but it doesn’t depend on just me”

“It depends on what the club wants and the coach as well.”

“I feel good and my desire would be to finish my career at Real Madrid if possible, although I don’t want to be a problem for Real Madrid or for the coach.”

“We have a good relationship and I am sure that we will come to an agreement so that I stay or go to another club.”

Despite having one year left on his contract, Marca claim that Modric will like to extend his contract further for a year or two. He would not mind even lowering his wages to do so.

The report says the player’s family and friends are all settled in Madrid and he would not like a change of environment.

We know Real Madrid’s policy towards players nearing the twilight of their careers. But given Modric and his impact for the club over recent years, perhaps they could grant him that wish of a short-term extension at least.
