The American started on the bench despite being the difference maker for his side in the Spanish capital last week.

Christian Pulisic was “very frustrated” over not making the Chelsea starting XI against Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Chelsea were in an advantageous position going into the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge, and it was Pulisic who had given them the crucial away goal back in the 1-1 draw in the back at the Alfredo Di Stefano.

Despite his heroics in the first leg, the 22-year-old was benched for the return leg at Stamford Bridge. When he did come on at the 67th minute, he was influential once again as he set up Mason Mount who put the match beyond doubt.

While Thomas Tuchel’s decision line-up cannot be questioned given the result, the USMNT star feels he was hard done by.

“Very frustrated. Yeah, not much else to say,” Pulisic told CBS Sports after the full-time whistle. “I wanted to play from the beginning as I always do.

“I’ve had to continue to prove myself over and over again. But as always, I just reach out to God and He gives me strength. With that behind me, nothing can stop me really.”
