The Brazilian superstar had to be stretchered off the pitch after supposedly breaking his ankle following a harsh challenge.

Neymar has avoided a serious fracture, Paris Saint-Germain confirmed in a medical report on Monday.

A strong tackle from Thiago Mendes saw the forward fall straight to the ground while awkwardly twisting his ankle in stoppage time of PSG’s 1-0 loss to Lyon in Sunday’s Ligue 1 outing.

The world’s costliest player was in tears as he left the field of action on a stretcher with Mendes getting a red card for the late challenge on him.

It was feared that Neymar was set for yet another lengthy spell on the sidelines as reports suggested he had suffered a broken ankle.

PSG have now diminished those fears by confirming that their star player has received positive scan results.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The medical examinations carried out on Neymar Jr are reassuring following his twisted ankle in Sunday’s game against Lyon. Further examinations will be carried out in 48 hours.

“Abou Diallo suffered a hamstring lesion in Sunday’s game and will return to competition in early January.”
