The Brazilian superstar suffered a serious injury last weekend ahead of PSG’s top of the table showdown with Lille in Ligue 1.
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed Neymar is unavailable for this weekend and the rest of this year. He is expected to return in January once the winter break in France ends.
The 28-year-old fell victim to a horrendous challenge from Thiago Mendes in PSG’s 1-0 defeat to Lyon last weekend and had to be carried off on a stretcher down the tunnel by the club’s own medical staff.
Scans confirmed he suffered an ankle injury, but also suggested it wasn’t as serious as originally feared.
In fact, Thomas Tuchel refused to rule Neymar out for Sunday’s trip to Ligue 1 leaders Lille despite omitting him from the mid-week victory over Lorient.

But now PSG have ended any hopes their manager and supporters may have retained on their record signing by stating he hasn’t fully recovered and won’t be available for the club’s last two games of 2020.
“Following the sprain to his left ankle, there is some bruising to the bone, and he continues to undergo treatment at the training ground. He is expected to make his return in January,” read a club statement.
Neymar’s fellow Brazilian Marquinhos, though, has recovered from a hip problem and should be available for the Lille match.
Danilo Pereira, Pablo Sarabia, Mauro Icardi, Abdou Diallo, and Juan Bernat are also unavailable.
After Lille on Sunday, PSG will face Strasbourg next Wednesday before heading into the winter break.
