A couple of days after the big announcement, PSG’s president decided to offer his views on the European Super League’s creation.
One would think that the PSG president was all for the European Super League, but he surprised us all today. Just like Bayern Munich, the French giants are completely opposed to this proposal. However, there is an ulterior motive they aren’t willing to accept these conditions. If this Super League kicks off, all clubs will receive a €350 million injection to their economy in a matter of days. This means that they will have liquid cash to sign any player they want.
PSG has Kylian Mbappe as one of the most coveted players in the world, you can do the math. Real Madrid’s intention to get this money is to make a move for the French forward. Nasser Al-Khelaifi finally sees Florentino Perez’s intentions. As of right now, both Bayern Munich and PSG are completely opposed to this idea. Also, Nasser is part of UEFA’s executive committee and he wouldn’t betray Aleksandr Ceferin.
Al-Khelaifi’s message to the other clubs.
In a public statement published on the club’s official website, this is what Al-Khelaifi said: “PSG firmly believes that football is a sport for all. I have been consistent on this point since the very start. We must remember that as a football club we are a family and a community, whose heart is made up by our supporters. There is a need to evolve the models of UEFA competition that currently exist and the proposition offered yesterday by UEFA.
“This concludes 24 months of deep consultation with everyone across the European football landscape, goes in this direction. We think that all proposals without UEFA’s support do not resolve the problems which the football community is currently facing, but are motivated by personal interest. PSG will continue to work with UEFA.”
