PSG have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to etch their name in the record books should they win Sunday’s Champions League final.

After years of splashing hundreds of millions on recruiting star talent, Paris Saint-Germain are arguably Europe’s biggest underachievers. True, they always won domestic titles. For the Champions League, however, they always fell agonizingly short.

But this season could finally be their big moment after the French giants reached the final of the competition for the first time upon defeating RB Leipzig 3-0 in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

Goals from Marquinhos, Angel Di Maria and Juan Bernat were enough to secure a comfortable victory.

What makes Sunday’s final such a special opportunity for PSG, though, isn’t just in winning their first Champions League. It’s in winning five trophies in just one campaign.

According to Goal, PSG will join Celtic in completing a clean sweep of trophies in one season should they defeat either Bayern Munich or Lyon in the Champions League final.

Celtic achieved their remarkable record in the 1966/67 campaign under Jock Stein. Not only did they become the first British club to win the European Cup, but they won the Scottish First Division, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup, and Glasgow Cup.

PSG, on the other hand, won their first trophy last year by beating Rennes for the Trophee des Champions title.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel’s (LFP) decision to cancel the 2019/20 season also awarded them the Ligue 1 title, having held a 12-point lead in the standings. While PSG defeated St.Etienne and Lyon in the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue finals respectively last month.

Now Bayern Munich or Lyon are all that in PSG’s way of matching a record that not even the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona could reach.
