The Parisians almost missed out on reaching UCL’s last-16 round.
Paris Saint-Germain’s journey through the Champions League group stage may have been challenging, but manager Luis Enrique remains optimistic about the team’s prospects.
A 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the knockout stage, and with a four-point lead in Ligue 1, PSG are still comfortable at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
“I don’t have any doubts that we will be better. All my teams have improved as the months have passed,” Luis Enrique told a news conference.
“In February, I have no doubt that we will have players back from big injuries, we are open to the transfer window and the chance of bringing in players. So why would I be negative or play the victim? I am an optimist, that is my nature.”
PSG have a number of crucial players on the sidelines ahead of their upcoming match against Lille. Sergio Rico, Nuno Mendes, Keylor Navas, Presnel Kimpembe and Fabian Ruiz are all out with injuries. However, Warren Zaire-Emery is back in the squad after a quick recovery from his ankle issue.
PSG’s squad boost could be complemented with the club’s transfer plans for January. Asked whether his side will be active in the market, the Spanish boss added: “The January transfer window is always difficult, but we are open to improving our team […] It is possible that players will arrive.”
