Ace Football previews the international friendly between Portugal and Andorra, and offers betting tips, odds, line-ups, and team news.
The final international break of 2020 is upon us, with Portugal to welcome Andorra to the Estadio da Luz on Wednesday night for one last friendly before resuming their UEFA Nations League campaign.
History heavily favors the hosts on this one, having won all five of their past meetings. Portugal scored a stunning 22 goals in those encounters and conceded just once in a 7-1 World Cup qualifier victory in 2001.
That, on top of their impressive form of late, suggests Andorra will have their work cut out to nick a famous away win in Lisbon.
Portugal Form & Stats
Fernando Santos confirmed in his pre-match conference that Cristiano Ronaldo is available again. The Juventus ace suffered an ankle problem against Lazio on Sunday, but trained normally with the rest of the Portugal squad on Tuesday.
The forward’s return is a major boost for the European champions after missing the 3-0 win over Sweden through a positive COVID-19 test.
Portugal will be keen to get off on the right foot by beating Andorra before a Nations League showdown with France. The joint-Group A3 leaders will lock horns in Lisbon on Saturday and victory for either side could prove crucial in qualifying for the finals. A trip to Croatia on November 17 will follow for the title holders.
Although Santos may opt to rest Ronaldo and several players for the Andorra game and experiment with his squad a bit.
Key Team Stats
- Cristiano Ronaldo has scored five goals in his two appearances against Andorra.
- Won all five of their games against Andorra in all competitions.
- Won six of their last seven home games in all competitions (D1).
- Kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven games in all competitions.
Andorra Form & Stats
The visitors, meanwhile, are on a terrible run of form. They’re winless in their last seven games in all competitions (D2 L5) and have just two points in their own Nations League campaign in Group D1.
In fact, Koldo Alvarez’s side have only won once in their last 23 games in all competitions. That sole victory came against Moldova in a Euro 2020 qualifier on October 2019, with Marc Vales on target for a 1-0 win.
Perhaps even more concerning for Alvarez is the fact his squad hasn’t scored in 17 of their last 23 matches nor won a friendly since beating Liechtenstein 1-0 in March 2018. That, on top of their poor record against Portugal, isn’t a good omen for Wednesday.
Key Team Stats
- Lost 14 of their last 23 games in all competitions (W1 D8).
- Failed to score in 17 of their last 23 games in all competitions.
- Scored just once against Portugal in five meetings.
