A recent report has claimed CR7’s agent Jorge Mendes met with Chelsea’s new co-owner Todd Boehly last week.

Cristiano Ronaldo loves the Champions League and wants to perform in the competition, according to Portugal teammate Jose Fonte.

Manchester United’s failure to qualify for the tournament last season, along with the club’s lack of summer signings so far, has sparked rumors of a possible departure from Old Trafford for Ronaldo.

Several European clubs have already been linked to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, including Chelsea.

A report from The Athletic on Saturday claimed the Premier League side’s new co-owner, Todd Boehly, met with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, in Portugal last week. The pair allegedly discussed the prospect of CR7 heading to Stamford Bridge for next season.

‘Ronaldo loves to play in the Champions League’

But while Fonte admits he is in the dark over Ronaldo’s plans himself, he suggested the Portugal captain’s love for the Champions League means nothing is off the table.

“He’s the Champions League man, so there is always that possibility,” the Lille defender told talkSPORT.

“One thing that he has always mentioned is that he loves to play in the Champions League and unfortunately they [Manchester United] didn’t qualify. I don’t know what he has in his head, only he knows. What I do know is that he loves the Champions League. He is a Champions League player, and he wants to perform in that competition.”

Ronaldo won’t be among the Manchester United players reporting for new manager Erik ten Hag’s first training session on Monday.

The 37-year-old is still on holiday after participating in this month’s Nations League games with Portugal.
