Before he was announced as a Covid-19 positive patient, Mauricio Pochettino spoke about Kylian Mbappe’s recent goal drought.
Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t seem worried about Kylian Mbappe’s recent goal drought, as he just said in a press conference. The Argentine manager offered a press conference just hours before testing positive for COvid-19 ahead of PSG’s match against Angers. One of the biggest subjects amongst the press members is Kylian Mbappe’s recent dip in form that has everybody surprised.
The star forward has only scored two goals in his last seven matches for PSG, something that doesn’t even compare to the ratio he had before that. There’s good reason to believe Kylian has lost focus due to his possible future away from the French club. But Pochettino wanted to remind everyone he isn’t worried about the star.
Pochettino doesn’t see a problem with Mbappe.
“I’m very happy with Kylian’s form,” Pochettino told a news conference via Goal. “He is an important player for us. He is trying hard for the team. I’m happy with his effort and his involvement against Marseille. As with everything, we are always looking to improve but I’m pleased with Mbappe’s effort and commitment. He’s played 90 minutes in all three games [since Pochettino’s arrival], which shows I’m pleased with the way he is performing.
“So much is expected of him and he’s in the spotlight, but as I said, I’m very pleased with him and, over time, he’ll get goals and more assists. There are a lot of myths about the way you manage players in a team in terms of fitness. Our decisions are based on the best for all the players. Mbappe has played all three games because he is fit. He will improve with the more minutes he gets.”
