The Argentine tactician has now won more trophies in just 11 days as PSG boss than he did in five years as the Spurs head coach.

Mauricio Pochettino insists “this is only the beginning” after guiding Paris Saint-Germain to Trophee des Champions in just his third game in charge.

Mauro Icardi gave his side the lead in the first half with Neymar doubling it in the second one as PSG beat Marseille 2-1 to win their 10th French Champions’ Trophy.

It was a proud moment for Pochettino as he was celebrating the first trophy win of his managerial career.

The 48-year-old failed to get his hands on a piece of silverware in his five and a half years at Tottenham. Success also eluded him during his almost four years at Espanyol and 16 months at Southampton.

He was appointed as PSG manager earlier this month and it took him only three games and 11 days to win a trophy.

“This is only the beginning. We believe that with time and work, we can install our ideas and that the progress will be good because the quality we have,” Pochettino told Canal Football Club.

“We have little time to train but my players deserve this trophy, the recognition and they have adapted quickly to my requirements.

“I want to thank the players, [Leonardo] and Nasser [El-Khelaifi] for the opportunity, but also Thomas Tuchel and his staff because we are here because they have won titles.”
