The Argentine tactician did not exactly have a dream start to his PSG career upon returning to management after over a year.
Paris Saint-Germain new boss Mauricio Pochettino has challenged Kylian Mbappe to raise his game.
Pochettino failed to produce a good first impression in the French capital as his first in charge ended in a 1-1 draw with St Etienne in Ligue 1.
PSG went 1-0 down four minutes after the fifteen-minute mark but a quick reply from Moise Kean ensured that they take at least a point from the Geoffroy-Guichard on Wednesday.
“I am happy with his performance of course, but he needs to improve,” replied Pocchettino when asked about Mbappe’s performance post-match, via Marca.
“I’m sure he wants to score and play better and win games. For sure he’s disappointed.
“All the players need to improve and the team needs to improve. It’s only the beginning, as we only arrived three days ago.”
Pochettino replaced Thomas Tuchel as the PSG head coach on Saturday, signing on a contract until the summer of 2022 – and he was disappointed not to get his tenure off to a winning start.
“We are disappointed because we didn’t win. I think we created enough chances in the second half to score,” the ex-Tottenham added. “We were unlucky that we didn’t score and didn’t get the three points.”
