In a recent interview, one of Portugal’s rising stars revealed how wonderful playing next to Cristiano Ronaldo can be on the national team.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the ultimate role model for every single Portugal player, but perhaps there is someone who feels more pressure than the rest. We are talking about Joao Felix, the youngster for whom Atletico Madrid paid €127 million. In a similar fashion to Ronaldo, he too is hyped to an extreme level due to his elevated price-tag. Even though he still hasn’t lived up to the standards at his club, there is still a lot of hope for what he can do for his country.
Cristiano Ronaldo has taken him under his wing from the very start and Joao Felix is deeply grateful for all the lessons. For the Juventus star, finding Felix’s best version is extremely important if they want to win more titles before he retires. Although he already won the European Championship in 2016, the ultimate goal is winning the World Cup in 2022.
Joao describes Ronaldo’s help and advice.
During a recent interview on World Soccer Magazine’s April edition, Felix said the following: “Playing next to Ronaldo is a wonderful feeling. Portugal had many world-class players I’ve enjoyed watching when I was growing up. If I had to pick one, I think it would be Rui Costa. Playing next to him would’ve been incredible, he had a special kind of talent. Ronaldo is an example for everybody on the team. Not only for everything he’s won but because of everything he still wants to win.
“He is a childhood idol for me and my other teammates. Cristiano never demands more from the rest than what he demands from himself. He won everything but he still demands everything for himself. We are talking about a great captain and he is always willing to give you advice. Right before a Nations League match, he told me to remain calm and enjoy the game.”
