The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is under police investigation for his alleged trip to the forbidden Alpine town of Courmayeur.

Andrea Pirlo insists Cristiano Ronaldo “takes responsibility” for breaching the coronavirus safety regulations.

Ronaldo recently stirred controversy with his alleged presence in one of the Covid “orange zones” in Italy.

The superstar footballer, along with girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, was pictured riding a snowmobile around the Alps.

As per the reports, he travelled from the Piedmont region to Valle d’Aosta on Tuesday to spend two days in the snow to celebrate the Argentine model’s 27th birthday.

Travel across regions is currently prohibited by the Italian government amid the rising cases of coronavirus in the country, and the Juventus No.7 is now facing a large fine.

“He had a day off and he could do what he wanted. He takes responsibility for what he does,” Pirlo said of his star player in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Serie A trip to Sampdoria, via Football Italia.

Pirlo added on the upcoming opponents: “Sampdoria are a good team, they are living a good moment. They have players with great qualities and a deep squad too.

“It will be a difficult game like it always happens when you face the teams of Mister Ranieri. I respect him so much.”
