Stefano Pioli wanted to give his impression after AC Milan’s defeat against Atalanta at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Serie A this evening.
Stefano Pioli was taken off guard by Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta on Saturday evening. This is arguably the first time of the season in which the Rossoneri are completely overtaken by a rival in all competitions. This is a major feat for the squad from Bergamo due to how impressive Pioli’s players have been throughout the season. As a complete gentleman, Pioli decided to come out and give mad props to Gasperini’s players for their performance.
This is a great sign coming from a manager who rarely met the face of defeat this year. A result that will allow AC Milan to learn and keep growing as a squad this season. Other managers tend to give excuses after such a painful defeat. Or they also blame their own players but not Pioli, he wanted to congratulate AC Milan’s rivals on a spectacular performance.
Pioli is excited for Serie A’s present.
“I think Atalanta are the only team we have been unable to beat. So clearly they make life difficult for us,” confessed Pioli on Sky Sport Italia. “We had started well, put lots of players into attack. It’s disappointing the way we conceded the opener on a set play, then the second goal closed the game. We had time, but were unable to find a way back into the match.
“We could’ve done more, we knew that we had to defend more carefully and the marking was also not the best, but we could have intercepted the cross earlier too. Atalanta did better than us this evening, a defeat can happen against a strong team. It’s disappointing, the second goal, as we just lost belief after that. It’s a very competitive league, we know it’s difficult, but we are up there at the top and we want to have our say.”
